Bills for extra usage
  • The software is free and open source (PostgreSQL license). You pay only for the Postgres database that runs it, such as Supabase or Neon.
  • Vectors use the storage and compute of that database. Each vector takes 4 bytes per dimension plus 8 bytes, so a 1,536-dimension vector is about 6 KB.
  • Indexes can cover up to 2,000 dimensions for the standard vector type, or up to 4,000 with half-precision vectors.
  • Many hosted Postgres providers include it preinstalled. Check your database provider's plan for storage limits.

Works well with

  • NeonNeon supports the pgvector extension so Postgres can store embeddings and search by similarity.
  • SupabaseSupabase supports the pgvector extension for storing embeddings and searching by similarity.
