Free tiers and their catches
CircleCI
Free: 30,000 free credits a month that expire at month end. A minute costs 5 credits on a small Docker runner, 10 on medium and 20 on large, so 30,000 credits is 6,000, 3,000 or 1,500 minutes.
- Free stops at its limits rather than billing more.
- Free bills in credits: 30,000 a month, shared across everything it meters.
GitHub Actions
GitHub Free: Public repositories can use standard GitHub-hosted runners for free, with no minute limit.
- GitHub Free stops at its limits rather than billing more.
GitLab CI/CD
GitLab Free: Signing up does not need a card, but GitLab asks for a card (a $1 verification that is not charged) before you can use its shared runners. Your own runners need no card and have no minute limit.
- GitLab Free stops at its limits rather than billing more.
- GitLab Free needs a payment card to sign up.
